Dubai's most authentic quarter, laid out in the 1890s. Narrow lanes and coral-and-gypsum houses topped with traditional wind towers (barjeel). Inside you'll find the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (paid breakfast-with-Emiratis sessions), a coffee museum, a coin museum, a calligraphy house and the Arabian Tea House gallery. The Dubai Museum sits next door in Al Fahidi Fort (1787).
Tips
Best at early morning (07:30–09:30) or after 17:00. Pair it with an abra crossing (AED 1) to the Spice and Gold Souks on the other side. Sheikh Mohammed Centre needs a separate booking — about AED 130 for breakfast with a host.
