The emirate's oldest surviving building, raised around 1670 from stone, gravel and clay. The fort stands on rising ground and served for centuries as both a stronghold and the ruler's residence. Restored, it is now ringed by a reconstructed heritage village with traditional houses and a mosque. Entry is free; you can climb the towers and walls for a view over the old town and the mountains. The Fujairah Museum is a few minutes away.
Tips
Go in the morning or near sunset; there is little shade on site. Wear comfortable shoes for climbing the towers. The Fujairah Museum is a short walk away — pair the two.
