What's special

  • ★Al Ali fort, around 1768
  • ★Archaeology of the ancient Ed-Dur site
  • ★Weapons, silver and daily-life reconstructions
  • ★Quiet, with few visitors

The museum occupies Al Ali fort, around 1768, one of the emirate's oldest buildings, in the old town by the water. The galleries hold archaeological finds from the major ancient site of Ed-Dur — pottery, coins and glass — alongside traditional weapons, silver and reconstructions of home life. The courtyard has cannons and towers. A quiet, compact museum with few visitors; an hour at an easy pace.

Tips

It runs with a midday break and Friday evenings only — check the hours. Children under 15 usually enter free; confirm at the desk. The old town and the waterfront are nearby.
