Day trips from Dubai 2026: 6 emirates in a week
From Dubai you can reach Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Hajar mountains in RAK, Fujairah beaches — all in one day. Routes, drive times, what to pack.
In short
From Dubai you can realistically day-trip to 5 of 6 other emirates — all within 250 km on good highways. Only Al Ain (part of Abu Dhabi) is 2.5h one-way and won't fit a half-day. Most popular route: Dubai → Sheikh Zayed Mosque → Louvre Abu Dhabi → back, 12 hours.
Abu Dhabi — must-do
Drive time: 1.5h (130 km via E11 Sheikh Zayed Road)
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — white marble, 82 domes, world-record carpet at 5700 m². Free, strict dress code (abaya provided at entry). Best light at 9-11 morning
- Louvre Abu Dhabi — 23 galleries under sky-dome, 8000 years of world art. 63 AED, closed Wednesday
- Qasr Al Watan — presidential palace-museum, 65 AED. Evening light show on the facade
- Yas Island — Ferrari World (300 AED) + Warner Bros World (315 AED) + Yas Waterworld (270 AED). For one day-trip, pick one
Day plan: 7:00 depart → 9:00 Mosque → 11:00 Louvre → 14:00 lunch on Corniche → 16:00 Qasr Al Watan → 19:00 return
Sharjah — one hour to art and souks
Drive time: 45 min (no traffic). Between 17:00-20:00 the E11 to Sharjah jams hard — leave before 16:00 or after 21:00
- Sharjah Arts Museum — Arab art from 18th-21st centuries, 5 AED
- Heart of Sharjah — restored historic quarter, craftsmen, traditional houses
- Souq Al Arsa — most authentic market in UAE, not touristy. Carpets, sabres, spices
- Al Noor Mosque — only Sharjah mosque with a tour for non-Muslims
Alcohol: Sharjah is a dry emirate — zero bars. If you want lunch with wine, stay in Dubai.
Ras Al Khaimah — mountains and adrenaline
Drive time: 1h (110 km)
- Jebel Jais — UAE's highest peak (1934 m). 28 km serpentine with 60+ turns. At the top, Jais Flight — world's longest zipline, 2.83 km over the abyss, 280 AED
- Jebel Jais Sledder — toboggan track at 1840 m, 130 AED
- Bear Grylls Explorers Camp — survival experience at 1450 m, campfire dinner, optional overnight
- Al Marjan Island — beach + Wynn casino-hotel (opens 2026) if you want to lounge
Fujairah — Indian Ocean and snorkelling
Drive time: 2h (130 km through the Hajar mountains)
- Snoopy Island — best snorkelling on the east coast. Turtles, reefs, parrotfish. 50 AED mask rental
- Al Bidya Mosque — UAE's oldest mosque (1446), 4 domes, active
- Wadi Wurayah — national park with waterfalls, hiking trails 2-8 km
- Pearl-diving boat — traditional pearl expedition with a local guide, 350 AED/person
Note: water in Fujairah is different from Dubai — Indian Ocean, +24-26 °C year-round, clearer (15-20 m visibility), with waves.
Ajman — most compact
Drive time: 50 min
The smallest emirate — 4-5 hours covers it. Ajman Beach (free public beach), Ajman Museum (18th-century fort), Ajman Saray Hotel for lunch on the Persian Gulf. Combines well with Sharjah — they're adjacent.
Umm Al Quwain — emptiness and pelicans
Drive time: 1h 10min
The most «untouched» emirate — almost no tourists. Dreamland Aqua Park (260 AED), mangrove kayaking (180 AED, see our tour), Al Sinniyah Island — reserve with pelican nesting and Arabian gazelles.
Practical notes
- Driver vs rental — for day-trips to Abu Dhabi a driver is better (650-900 AED for the day, driver waits). Self-drive rental from 120 AED/day, but parking in Abu Dhabi is paid and limited
- No borders — one UAE visa, no checkpoints between emirates
- Fuel — gas stations every 30-50 km, petrol ~3.07 AED/litre (95)
- Connectivity — Du and Etisalat work everywhere, no roaming between emirates
- Closed places — Friday before 13:00 many sights (especially religious) are closed or restricted. Plan Tuesday-Thursday or Saturday
