Dubai desert: safari and experiences 2026

The desert is an essential part of Dubai, and there are many formats: from a couple-hour group jeep safari to a private dinner under the stars and a sunrise hot-air balloon. The key is to pick the right format and avoid the midday heat. Below we cover types, season and practicalities.

Season runs October to April: comfortable days, cool evenings. In summer only sunrise or late evening, the dunes scorch by day. A sunset safari is the most popular: golden light for photos and cooler air by dinner. The balloon flies at sunrise only, when the wind is calm.

Hotel pickup by jeep, 30-60 minutes to the dunes. Then dune bashing (bumpy, sit up front if you get carsick), photo stops, camels, sandboarding. At camp: BBQ dinner, shows (tanoura, belly dance), shisha, henna. Return by 9-10pm. Private formats are quieter and more flexible.
