Burj Al Arab 2026: how to get inside and whether it's worth it
The world's only 7-star is open only to guests and to confirmed restaurant or afternoon-tea bookings. Every way in.
The short version
Burj Al Arab, the sail-shaped hotel in Jumeirah, opened in 1999. The only hotel using the 7-star marketing tier. Entry is restricted to guests and confirmed bookings for a restaurant, afternoon tea, or the bar. You can't just walk in to look — the old "Inside Burj Al Arab Tour" at 99 AED was discontinued in 2026.
Five ways in
1. Afternoon Tea at Sahn Eddar (from 600 AED)
Lobby restaurant at the base of the atrium. You sit inside the 200 m open atrium with colourful "sail" ceilings. Three-tier dessert and savoury buffet, unlimited tea.
- 600 AED adult (no champagne)
- 850 AED with a glass of champagne
- 14:00-18:00 daily
- Dress code: smart casual (no shorts)
- Book via bookatable/OpenTable, 2-3 weeks ahead for weekends
This is the most accessible route — like "getting into the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa staircase".
2. Skyview Bar (350 AED minimum)
Bar on the 27th floor with a panoramic Gulf view. Transparent walls, atmosphere ahead of the food.
- 350 AED minimum spend per person (cocktails + small plates)
- 12:00-01:00 daily
- Dress: smart elegant (closed shoes, shirt or blouse)
- Booking required, 1-2 weeks out
The cheapest entry but a trade-off — you're only at the bar, you don't see the atrium.
3. Al Mahara (from 950 AED)
The hotel's flagship restaurant — tables around a giant aquarium with 80 species. 9-course tasting menu 1 350 AED, no wine pairing.
- 950-1 600 AED per person (dinner)
- 19:00-22:30
- Dress: jacket for men, evening for women
- Book 3-4 weeks ahead in high season
Great food (Michelin level), but the aquarium view is more atmosphere than revelation.
4. Dinner at Junsui or Nathan Outlaw at Al Mahara
Two other fine-dining venues: Japanese (Junsui, 1 200 AED) and British (Nathan Outlaw, 1 500 AED). Booking, dress code as above.
5. Suite stay (from 9 500 AED a night)
The only legit way to "see everything". Deluxe One-Bedroom Suite, 170 m², two floors.
- Chauffeured Rolls-Royce to/from DXB
- 24/7 personal butler
- Hermès amenities
- Pool, beach club, spa access
Not for a one-nighter — honeymoon or special event only.
Is it worth it
Straight:
- Afternoon Tea — yes, once in a lifetime. 600 AED for a Dubai icon, like the Eiffel Tower. Atmosphere is genuinely unique — colourful atrium, freesia scent, polished marble.
- Skyview Bar — 50/50. Good view, but Cavalli Lounge or Sky Views Observatory offer comparable for less.
- Al Mahara dinner — only for foodies. Value-wise At.mosphere is cheaper with a better city view.
- Suite stay — absolute indulgence. Genuinely special, but expensive.
Myths
- "Pay 100 AED to see the lobby" — myth, doesn't exist in 2026.
- Free tours — none. No booking, no entry.
- Walk up to the parking and photograph — partially. The hotel parking is closed to non-guests, but you can shoot from the street (Souk Madinat side, Sunset Beach).
Best free photo spots for Burj Al Arab
- Sunset Beach (Umm Suqeim Beach 3) — 100 m from the hotel, free
- Souk Madinat Jumeirah bridge across the adjacent lagoon
- The Walk JBR west end — distant
- Le Méridien Mina Seyahi beach (club beach)
- The View at Palm Tower 240 m — Burj Al Arab as a point on the horizon
Alternatives
If you want luxury but not 9 500 AED:
- Atlantis The Royal (opened 2023), newer, more rooms, 3 500-12 000 AED
- Bulgari Resort on Jumeira Bay, best privacy, 3 500-8 000 AED
- One&Only The Palm — classic luxury without neon, 2 500-6 000 AED
- Address Sky View in Downtown, 1 500-3 500 AED
Tip: Afternoon Tea in low season (May-August) drops to 450 AED, 25 % cheaper with shorter queues.
