Fujairah is the only emirate entirely on the east coast, on the Gulf of Oman, about two hours from Dubai through the Hajar Mountains. It has calm beaches, the UAE's best diving and snorkelling, the country's oldest mosque and mountain wadis. It is a great day trip or an overnight by the sea, especially if you want it quieter than the west coast.

What to see and do
- Snoopy Island (Sandy Beach), snorkelling and diving over coral, with turtles and fish.
- Al Aqah beach, calm water and the east-coast resorts.
- Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest in the UAE, around 1446.
- Fujairah Fort and the museum.
- The Friday Market at Masafi, carpets, pottery and fruit along the way.

Tip: for snorkelling at Snoopy Island, come in the morning, the water is calmer and clearer. The east coast is cooler and greener than the west, pleasant even in the shoulder season.
