Dubai in December 2026: weather, events, what to pack

The headline month of the year — 22–26°C, Burj Khalifa fireworks, Global Village, and Dubai Shopping Festival.

16 May 2026·6 min read

The short version

December is the best month for Dubai. Daytime 22–26 °C, nights 16–19 °C, the Gulf at 23–25 °C, humidity normal. It's peak season — hotels are expensive, especially leading into NYE — but it earns it.

Weather, week by week

  • Dec 1–7: warm, 24–27 °C, fewer tourists, best price window
  • Dec 8–20: 22–26 °C, momentum builds, prices climb
  • Dec 21–31: 20–24 °C, brief rain possible, hotels at peak

Swimming is fine any week, but JBR and La Mer fill up after Dec 25.

December events

Global Village (open October–April): a huge fair of 90-country pavilions, entry 30 AED, family day on Wednesdays. Go at sunset, stay till midnight. Like a Christmas market in Eastern colours.

Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) starts Dec 13–15 and runs for 6 weeks: 25–75 % off in malls, lotteries (top prize usually a Range Rover or 1 kg of gold), street shows. The best season for luxury at a real discount.

NYE fireworks — Dec 31 at midnight, synchronised shows at Burj Khalifa, Atlantis The Palm, and Burj Al Arab. For Downtown arrive by 19:00 (access cuts off around 21:00); best spots: Burj Park, Souk Al Bahar bridge, Address Sky View.

Dubai 24-hour run (mid-December, Festival City) — for runners, an ultra around the corniche.

National Day on Dec 2 — fireworks across the city, parades, free concerts. Worth catching.

What to pack

  • One hoodie or light jacket — for evenings and desert trips
  • An umbrella for Dec 21–31 — rain is rare but it happens
  • Swimsuit and shorts — beach baseline
  • Scarf and covered shoulders for Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
  • Universal Type G adapter (UK plugs)

What to book ahead

  • Hotels for Dec 25–Jan 3 — 3–4 months out, after Dec 15 there's almost no 5-star at a sane rate
  • Dinner at At.mosphere, Nobu, Zuma — 3–4 weeks out
  • Premium-camp desert safari — 2 weeks out in high season
  • NYE Marina yacht — 2 months out, the water view beats the crowd
  • Helicopter tour — 2 weeks out
Tip: a saner NYE alternative to the Downtown crush is a Marina yacht dinner with the Atlantis or Palm panorama. 1 500–3 500 AED per couple — calmer and prettier than the Burj Khalifa crowd.

Day trips

  • Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Louvre Abu Dhabi, perfect walking-tour weather
  • Hatta: mountains, kayaks on the blue lake, 2–4 °C cooler than Dubai
  • Ras Al Khaimah / Jebel Jais: world's longest zipline, 1 100 m elevation drop

December is our busiest month for enquiries — start planning in August or September. If you want a specific hotel and an NYE spot, message us and we'll book it.
