Dubai on a budget 2026
Free spots, cheap eats, savings on transport and stays. How to see Dubai without big spending.
In short
Dubai is seen as expensive, but with planning a trip can be quite budget-friendly: lots is free, local food is cheap, transport is convenient and affordable. The main costs are hotels and paid attractions, and both can be cut. Below, how.
Free
The Dubai Fountain, beaches (Kite Beach, JBR, La Mer), a walk through Al Fahidi and the souks, the abra across the Creek for 1 dirham, Marina Walk and Dubai Frame from outside. Global Village, a token entry. Many of Dubai's best experiences are free or nearly so.
Cheap eats
Indian and Pakistani cafes in Deira and Karama, filling for 15-30 dirhams. Shawarma, falafel, biryani for 10-20. Mall food courts beat restaurants. Supermarkets (Carrefour, Lulu) for water and snacks. Business lunches are better value than dinner at the same places.
Transport
The metro, cheap and easy, a Nol card pays off within a couple of rides. Buses and the tram, cheaper still. Careem/Uber, pricier than the metro but cheaper shared. From the airport, take the metro over a taxi. Much of Downtown and Marina is genuinely walkable.
Cheaper stays
Deira and Bur Dubai, budget hotels and hostels near the metro and souks. Apart-hotels are good value for families with a kitchen. Low season (summer), prices drop 30-50 percent. Book ahead and judge a district by metro proximity.
Money-saving tips
