Abu Dhabi day trip from Dubai 2026: route, what to fit in, how to get there
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Louvre, the Qasr Al Watan palace and Yas Island in one day. A realistic route, the drive time, and what to pick if time is short.
The short version
Abu Dhabi is an hour and a half from Dubai, and the highlights genuinely fit into a day. The classic set is the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Qasr Al Watan palace, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Corniche. With children, the day can go to Yas Island and a theme park. Leave early, as the mosque has a strict dress code. How Abu Dhabi differs from Dubai is covered in the comparison of the two emirates.
How to get there
- By an organised tour from Dubai, we arrange the trip with transfer and a guide.
- By rental car, the road is excellent, about an hour and a half.
- The drive is roughly 1.5 hours each way.
A day route, culture
- Morning: the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, free entry, a strict dress code, women need covered clothing and a scarf.
- Day: Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace with halls and a library, or the Louvre Abu Dhabi under its famous dome (closed Mondays).
- Lunch by the Corniche or at the Emirates Palace.
- Evening: the Corniche promenade, the skyline view, then back to Dubai.
A day route, with children
- Yas Island: Ferrari World, Warner Bros World or Yas Waterworld, pick one park for the day.
- On the way back, a quick stop at the mosque at sunset.
Prices, a guide
- A tour from Dubai: from 250–450 AED per person
- A rental car plus Salik and fuel: 250–400 AED a day
- A theme park: 295–375 AED per person
Tip: do not try to combine culture and a theme park in one day, a park takes the whole day. Pick one scenario, otherwise you will spend the day on the road.
Other day trips around the emirates are in the day-trips guide. Send your dates and who is coming and we will arrange an Abu Dhabi trip with transfer and a guide for your plan.
