Umm Al Quwain 2026: Dreamland water park, mangroves and a quiet beach
The calmest emirate in the UAE, an hour from Dubai: Dreamland water park, kayaking through the mangroves, the old town and beaches with no crowds.
The short version
Umm Al Quwain is the smallest emirate by population and arguably the quietest in the UAE. There are no skyscrapers and no mega-malls, but there is one of the country's oldest water parks, mangrove lagoons for kayaking, a slow-paced old town and beaches with no crowds. It is a great day trip if you want to swap Dubai's pace for something calm and family-friendly.
It is about an hour from Dubai, so Umm Al Quwain pairs well with a trip to the neighbouring emirates.
How to get there
- By car or taxi from Dubai it is around 50–60 minutes via Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311), with a clear run for most of the drive.
- Renting a car for the day is the easiest option: there is little public transport between emirates and the sights are spread out.
- We can also arrange the trip with a transfer and driver, just message us and we will put together an option for your route.
Tip: set off in the morning so you can fit the water park, the mangroves and the old town into one day.
Dreamland water park
Dreamland Aqua Park is one of the biggest and oldest water parks in the UAE, right by the highway as you enter the emirate. It has dozens of slides, a lazy river, a wave pool and separate zones for little ones. The mood is more relaxed than the famous Dubai parks, and it is usually less busy.
- With kids this is the main reason to come to Umm Al Quwain, the park is built for families.
- Plan at least half a day here, ideally in the morning before the heat peaks.
- Bring water shoes, your own towel and sunscreen, shade is limited in places.
Entry is roughly from AED 95–120 for an adult, less for children, but prices and opening hours change by season, so check the latest details on the park's official website before you go.
Mangroves and kayaking
Umm Al Quwain's coast is made up of lagoons and mangrove forests, some of the most scenic in the country. People paddle here by kayak or SUP across calm water, watch the birds, flamingos and herons, and simply enjoy the quiet.
- Kayaking suits beginners too, the lagoon water is calm with no waves.
- The best time to paddle is early morning or the hours before sunset, when it is cooler and the light is lovely.
- Several operators on the coast rent kayaks and SUPs, usually by the hour, check the price on the spot.
If you love the water and want something more premium, after a calm day in the lagoons it makes sense to keep the theme going at sea, take a look at yacht charters in Dubai.
The old town and atmosphere
The historic part of Umm Al Quwain sits on a narrow peninsula with old quarters, a fort and the remains of defensive towers. You can feel the slow, almost village-like rhythm of the old UAE, before the oil boom.
- Walk around the old town, see the fort and the National Museum inside its walls.
- Stop by the fish market and small cafes with local food.
- This is about atmosphere and photos rather than shopping or attractions, allow an hour or so.
It is worth checking the museum and fort hours in advance, as they can change, especially on Friday and in the hot season.
Beaches with no crowds
The emirate's main draw is calm, uncrowded beaches. The water is shallow and warm with a gentle entry, which is handy with small children. There is less infrastructure than in Dubai, so bring water and snacks with you.
- For a comfortable beach day with service, choose a hotel or resort beach.
- Shade and sunbeds are not everywhere, an umbrella will not go amiss.
When to go and how long
- The best season is October to April, when it is cooler and pleasant for walking and paddling.
- In summer it is mostly worth coming for the water park and the sea, as it gets very hot outside.
- A full day is enough: water park or mangroves in the morning, old town midday, beach at sunset.
What it costs, a rough guide
- Dreamland water park: roughly from AED 95–120 per adult
- Kayak or SUP rental: by the hour, check with the operator
- Car rental for the day: from AED 150–250 depending on class
- Taxi from Dubai one way: roughly AED 120–180
Prices are approximate and change by season, so confirm the current amounts before your trip.
Send us your dates and group size and we will help build a calm day in Umm Al Quwain with a transfer, and suggest what to add from routes around the other emirates.
